Our most popular half-day raft trip. Two to three hours of Class 2 and 3 rapids, a rollercoaster ride of whitewater thrills. A perfect family adventure at most water levels, the Racecourse is a suitable whitewater raft trip for first-time rafters. At super-high levels, the last rapid of the Racecourse is one of the biggest on the Rio Grande! That doesn't happen every year, and when it does we move younger children to the Orilla Verde section.

Funyak it! For extra thrills at low and medium water levels, paddle your own inflatable one-person or two-person miniature raft, accompanied by a guide. You will get a comprehensive lesson at the beginning of the trip, and you will amaze yourself at the skill with which you learn to negotiate the whitewater. No extra charge.

WHITEWATER RATING: Class 3 (4 in high water)

RECOMMENDED MINIMUM AGE: 6 (12 in high water, 16 in super-high water)

MEET: 9.30 a.m. or 1.30 p.m., Rio Grande Gorge Visitors Center (Hwy 68 in Pilar, between mile markers 28 and 29 - do not put this into GPS, it will take you 30 miles in the wrong direction!). Return to your vehicle 12-12.30 p.m. or 4-4.30 p.m.

SEASON: March to November. (Los Rios rafts earlier and later than any other company.) "Good Evening River Runners, I just wanted to send an email to let you guys know what a great time we had on your rafting trips. Your guides Brian and John H. are really amazing! John took our family out on Wednesday morning down The Racecourse. He made it fun for everyone, even our 8year old who just rode. He chose a smaller boat so we would have a little more action and told us great stories along the way. We even requested him when we decided to book another trip the following Saturday with some friends. He wasn’t available, but Mordi was a great guide and captain as well. Our second trip was a much bigger group of rafters and funyakers. Brian B was out of his boat a number of times helping less experienced guides and rafters down the river in some of the more challenging spots, keeping the entire crew safe and spaced out, and helping funyakers even to the point of wading upstream a good distance to climb a huge wet rock to rescue a funyak, all with a smile, great attitude, and an encouraging word. We decided he must be a Ninja! Your people make your company great. Kudos to you for putting these talented and kind people as leaders and kudos to them for being great at their jobs. We can’t wait to do it again next summer! Thank you so much!"
